The main event

Now this was a true bucket list item I was able to scratch off. Watching this eruption live in Iceland was exhilarating and humbling - however I almost missed it entirely. While pumping gas in Grindavík, I could barely notice that there was some smoke in the distance. As i looked closer, I realized that the eruption I waited hours for the day prior had finally taken place. I quickly drove back to the base and hiked atop the neighboring mountaintop again to get a good vantage point. I set up my tripod and watched for hours as lava bubbled and slowly spewed out the sides.
